| Bulger played himself into a 'competition' |

I think the best way to AVOID a QB 'controversy' is for Martz to open up the job to a full, fair and balanced competition.
Make one of the Qbs WIN the job. I see no reason why that wouldnt work.
If neither QB plays better than the other...well...then it doesnt really matter who plays, does it.
Keep both QBs. Have a competition. Let the chips fall where they may.
That'd be my strategy.
I dont think any team is going to give up a no.1 pick for Marc btw. And I dont think any team is going to roll the dice on Kurt either, btw.
P.S. I 'lean' towards Kurt in this thing. If both QB's play about the same, I think I'd like to see Kurt play and let Marc come off the bench if need be.
P.P.S. At any rate, if the Rams dont figure out how to block blitzers and stop the run, it wont matter who is flinging the ball around.

RE: I't would be a good move for many reasons

Nice post. I agree.
This would be the best thing for a lot of reasons that I list here in no particular order.
1. 99% of the fans would truly rather have the "old" Kurt Warner quarterbacking the Rams. I made that number up, but I dont care...I'm sticking with it. If nothing else, the fans need to see the Rams give Warner another shot.
2. The Rams do not know what they have in Warner. They need to find out before they make an all-time franchise blunder.
3. The competition should put the necessary pressure (if done right) in the mix. Warner needs to show everyone that he can come through under pressure. Make it clear that this is his shot at the job. No excuses. In preseason, switch them from series to series, not quarter to quarter or half to half.
4. Bulger is a young QB. He has time on his side, Warner doesnt. Giving Warner a chance to take back the job shouldnt hurt Bulger in the long run. If Warner shines then Bulger can be the heir apparent or trade bait. If Warner falters then its time to move on.
5. The best,(and possibly the worst if not handled right), scenario is that BOTH Qbs look great in the preseason, that both look great and do a wonderful job. This could be bad because the contorversy will still exists with the fans and possibly within the organization. This would be great because the Rams will have two great QBs to start the season. There would be value that could be saved or traded. Hopefully it means that Warner is back and not that both of them suck and one sucks a little less than the other.
This competition can only be successful if two things happen. One, the organization has to handle it right. There needs to be a clear understanding of how the competition works, and on what is happening up until the day that the starter is announced. Rams need to have a clear plan for what happens if the competition ends in a tie.
Two, Warner and Bulger have to buy into this competition. They have to be willing to compete for the job. Bulger will have to understand that he is no longer the starter and will need to win the job back. That shouldnt be a huge problem for Bulger. He struggled and should understand the situation. Warner is the one that will need to really buy into the idea. He will need to forget about everything he has done in the past and come into the competition understanding that it will be based on THIS YEARS performance. He will need to understand that he is owed nothing, that he and Bulger are on equal footing and are competing on a level playing field. They both have to have the attitude that its a fight and may the best QB win.
If Martz handles it correctly the Rams can clear up a lot of the issues before the season starts. If its a tie than give the ball to Warner. We all know the upside of Warner. We dont know what Bulger can do but it cant be much better than a Kurt Warner returned to his old form.
